FDA Commissioner nominee intends to lower drug costs

Dr. Scott Gottlieb who has been nominated by President Donald J. Trump to lead the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advocates lowering drug costs by approving inexpensive generic medications faster (1,2). Dr. Gottlieb intends to make streamlining approvals his top priority. Getting more generic medications to market faster may save American people billions of dollars annually.
Dr. Gottlieb is 44 year old (2). He grew up in New Jersey. Dr. Gottlieb is a graduate of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the Mount Sinai Hospital. He is a former FDA deputy commissioner for medical and scientific affairs.
