The Mount Sinai Medical Center has been recognized as one of the nation’s leading hospitals in the 2011-2012 “Best Hospitals” issue of U.S. News & World Report. The Mount Sinai Medical Center is ranked 16 out of 4,852 hospitals nationwide, and received a spot on the U.S. News “Honor Roll” of America’s best hospitals. Mount Sinai scored well in 12 of 16 specialties, improving in nine specialties over the 2010 rankings, and maintaining its solid standing in three other areas, including its No. 1 ranking in Geriatrics.
The Mount Sinai Medical Center encompasses both The Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Mount Sinai School of Medicine has more than 3,400 faculty in 32 departments and 16 institutes. It consistently ranks among the top 20 medical schools in the United States.
The Mount Sinai Hospital was founded in 1852. It is a 1,171-bed teaching facility and one of the oldest, largest and most-respected hospitals in the United States. New York Magazine’s 2011 “Best Doctors” issue lists 209 Mount Sinai faculty and staff, including those who work at an affiliated institution. Mount Sinai ranked above many hospitals including New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia, New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell, and New York University Langone Medical Center.
