Epidemiological and clinical studies that have been conducted for at least last twenty years usually report high rates of comorbidity between alcohol use disorders and posttraumatic stress disorder. Although this problem was recognized as important and potentially disturbing to treatment, the comorbidity of disorders is still underdiagnosed and actually rarely addressed during the treatment. This chapter includes a review of the literature on comorbidity of both disorders as well as their consequences. Theoretical models explaining this phenomenon, also on biological levels, were described. Moreover, an issue of increased risk of suicidal behaviors among individuals presenting symptoms of both comorbid disorders was discussed in the light of the available literature.
