National Respect Day
Leo Sher, M.D.
Today, on Sunday, September 18, National Respect Day is celebrated in the U.S. Let’s reflect deeper about how we treat the people around us and make changes wherever necessary.
A good place to start is by active listening and treating other people as we want to be treated. Let’s respectfully consider the opinions and feelings of others, even though we may not agree. The high road can be difficult but choosing to do the right thing is a giant step towards being respectable and highly regarded.
Dalai Lama stated, “When you practice gratefulness, there is a sense of respect toward others.” When you are appreciative for what you receive, you are valuing and respecting the giver.
We should also respect ourselves. Self-respect is important.
On National Respect Day, we are encouraged to be respectful, caring, and kind toward everyone and help others do the same. Let’s try to be respectful and considerate toward people around us every day.
