research reports on pathological gambling at the 60th Annual Convention of the Society of Biological Psychiatry
Dr. Pinhas N. Dannon, an Israeli scientist, presented two research reports on pathological gambling at the 60th Annual Convention of the Society of Biological Psychiatry (May 2005, Atlanta, Georgia, USA):
1. Dannon P.N. Comorbid psychiatric diagnosis and substance abuse in pathological gamblers: a preliminary gender comparison study. The author observed different patterns of psychiatric comorbidity in male versus female pathological gamblers and suggested that underlying etiopathology may differ between men and women.
2. Dannon P.N. Topiramate versus fluvoxamine in the treatment of pathological gambling: a randomized, blind-rater comparison study. This study suggests that topiramate and fluvoxamine monotherapy may be effective in the treatment of pathological gambling.
Abstracts of research reports presented at the 60th Annual Convention of the Society of Biological Psychiatry have been published in a Supplement to Biological Psychiatry (Volume 57, Number 8S, April 15, 2005).
