Vladan Novakovic, M.D.
Vladan Novakovic, M.D., is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Over the years, Dr. Novakovic has demonstrated his commitment to both clinical and academic psychiatry.
Dr. Novakovic joined the faculty as an Attending Psychiatrist on the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at the James J Peters VA Medical Center, Bronx, NY. His duties include assessment, diagnosis, and clinical management of patients admitted to the inpatient services. He works closely with residents and medical students, supervising their clinical work, participating in their individual supervision, and coordinating formal didactics relevant to cases seen on the inpatient units.
Dr. Novakovic graduated from University of Belgrade with an excellent academic performance both in medical school and further clinical training. He went on to continue his training in Adult Psychiatry at the Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Novakovic joined the Mount Sinai School Medicine when he began his fellowship training in the Schizophrenia/Neuroimaging program under supervision of Joseph I. Friedman, MD and Kenneth Davis, MD.
He also dedicated significant time and effort receiving training in diverse Brain Stimulation modalities at the Columbia University Psychiatric Institute. His predominat scientific interests are Brain Stimulation modalities in Neuropsychiatry and the role of various brain circuitries in neuropsychiatric disorders. He has been teaching the Functional Neuroanatomy course for residents in the Department of Psychiatry at the Mt Sinai School of Medicine. He has presented various Case Conferences and given lectures on Schizophrenia and Brain Stimulation. Additionally, Dr. Novakovic is very active in the Brain Stimulation Research at the Bronx VA, specifically in TMS studies in the Gulf War Syndrome, CES studies in PTSD veterans and the use of TMS in prevention of suicidal behavior. Also, he continues to contribute to the activities of the Conte Center studies on Schizophrenia. He also gives in depth instruction in the psychopharmacology to the house staff.
