European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP) News
Leo Sher, M.D. has been accepted as a Corresponding Member of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP). According to the ECNP web site, “Corresponding membership is available for eminent researchers in the field of neuropsychopharmacology and related disciplines who are not permanently resident in Europe.”
The goals of ECNP are to support innovative research in the convergent disciplines of neuropsychopharmacology and to facilitate the communication of ideas, discoveries and best practices; to encourage the scientific activities of countries in Europe and to co-ordinate the development of common European standards; to promote the entry of young scientists into the field and to support their ongoing professional development; to provide guidance and information to the public on matters relating to brain function and the treatment of brain disorders; and to facilitate dialogue with regulators, government bodies, international agencies and industry.
Dr. Sher is also a Member of the International Academy of Suicide Research (IASR), an Executive Member of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) Section on Dual Disorders/Pathology, and a Member of the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry (WFSBP) Task Force, “Mental Disorders and General Practice.” Dr. Sher is the Director of Inpatient Psychiatry at the James J. Peters Veterans’ Administration Medical Center and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.
